SAND TOURNAMENT RULES

GENERAL RULES:

  • Middle school and high school teams can have between 6-12 players (with any combination of males and females)
  • CISD students (current 6-12th grade), alumni and faculty allowed to play
    • students from other schools are allowed to participate on a team with at least 1 CISD student on their team. 
  • FEMALE PLAYERS: ONLY 2 Varsity, JV or Freshman (played in the 2024 season) from ANY high school volleyball program or club program can be on a team.  Violation of this rule will result in the team being disqualified from play with no refund.  
  • MALE PLAYERS: ONLY 2 club volleyball players can be on a team.  Violation of this rule will result in the team being disqualified from play with no refund.

SPORTS GARDEN RULES:

  • All players must wear a shirt - no bathing suits, sports bras or bare chests allowed
  • Outside food/drinks are NOT allowed at Coppell Sports Garden - bags will be checked upon entry to the establishment and all food/drinks will be confiscated.  Players will be given a water bottle at check-in and can refill that bottle throughout the night.  Sports Garden will also have food items for sale.  

PLAYING RULES:

  • There must be 6 players on the court at all times
  • Players must rotate to all positions
  • All substitutions must enter the game at the serving position when their team controls the serve
  • Teams can only play with players on their roster.  Teams will be disqualified if they pick up extra players.  
    • If players must leave, leaving the team with less than 6 players, that team will forfeit all future matches
  • Scoring will be rally scoring with each serve counting as a point for the team that wins the rally
  • Standard volleyball rules will apply 
    • THE REF IS ALWAYS RIGHT - Do not argue with refs for any reason or your team will be asked to leave
    • NO touching the net at any time with any part of the body
    • Obvious lifts/catches will be called
    • Serves that hit the net but continue over into the opponent's playing area are legal serves
    • Time outs are 30 seconds - Each team allowed 1 timeout per match
    • Rock/paper/scissor at the beginning of the match by the team captains to determine who will serve/receive

POOL PLAY MATCHES:

  • Each match will be played to 21 points or 15 minutes (whichever happens first)
    • You do not have to win by 2 if time has expired

BRACKET PLAY MATCHES: 

  • Every team will qualify for bracket play
  • Pool standings will be determined by 1: match record; 2: points scored against
  • Single elimination - once you lose in bracket play your team is finished 
  • 1st and 2nd place teams from each pool will qualify for Gold Bracket
  • 3rd and 4th place teams from each pool will qualify for Silver Bracket
  • 5th and 6th place teams from each pool will qualify for Bronze Bracket
  • Each bracket play match will by one set to 21 or 20 min
